Celebrating Our Graduates - Valedictorian Speech

Class of 2015 Valedictorian Brannon Murdock

Brennon Murdock stood before a crowd of friends, family, teachers and classmates. Behind the podium, Brennon adjusts the mic and looks at his community before him:

Hello everyone.

I greet you with respect and gifts of a million war ponies, a war pony for each of you to take on the world after graduation. Today we are graduating, and it is a day to be grateful for our families, each other, and the world we are blessed with.

I would like to thank my family for their never ending support and putting each of my A’s on the refrigerator for everyone to marvel at. I would especially like to thank my mother and father who pushed me as hard as they could to get me off the couch to work hard, and obviously they succeeded because I’m standing here on stage. I love my family and the overflowing love they freely share. You are all awesome, from my grandparents, to aunts, uncles, and cousins. I could speak forever about the gift you have been in my life.

Other planters of awesomeness in my life are, of course, my classmates. Some of you I have known since the first Red Cloud draft back in pre-school. But despite how long I have known you, I know I connect with each of you and that our class will always share the energized friendships we sometimes obnoxiously but proudly display in school.

Red Cloud loves education, and I love education. Red Cloud Indian School and all of its teachers, staff, and workers have provided me with 13 years of education that I will use for the rest of my life. So yeah. You could say Red Cloud’s a pretty good school. I gave it a great review on Yelp. Check it out if you have the time.

Although my perception of the world is still developing, I will boldly offer my classmates some Brennon Murdock words of wisdom.

Find a reason to fight. Life itself fights to stay alive in every way possible. The rose breaking through the concrete. The planet earth surviving extinctions. Generations rebuilding after genocide. What I fight for is a better life for myself, my family, my friends, my community, and my world. What do you fight for?

Each one of us deserves the best life possible. The best life for me is a happy life. Spreading happiness is pretty much what I was born to do, molded to do, and now, plan to pursue at the University of Denver. Thank you family, friends, and classmates for being a part of that happiness.

Enjoy graduation!
