Twenty years ago this season, she was a freshman on a Red Cloud team that finished fifth in the state.

An all-around player in her day who didn't mind the dirty work of defense or rebounding, Carlow likely brings a little of that scrap to her team, which fought back from a 42-point loss to Pine Ridge earlier in the season to upset the Lady Thorpes in the semifinals of the Region 7A tournament, before knocking off Little Wound to earn a trip to state.

“I'm really excited for the girls,” said Carlow, whose team is 17-6 on the season. “As coaches and as players, we worked hard all year and it comes down to a couple of games in the postseason. You win or go home, and we were fortunate enough to be on the winning side. They have rewarded themselves with a trip to Watertown.”

St. Thomas More head coach Brandon Kandolin, whose top-ranked Cavaliers are the Class A favorite going in, said he has been impressed with Carlow and the direction she has taken her Red Cloud squad.

“I think Coach Carlow has been very good for the program,” Kandolin said. “They have had their team in our summer league and she gets them up there and keeps them active. Her personality, the upbeat personality that she has, has been something that has carried over to her girls and I like the way she gets them to work.”
