Our Lady of Lourdes' Library Gets a 21st Century Makeover

It all started with 6,000 books.

During the quiet days over Christmas break, a team of maintenance, library and volunteer staff worked together to move Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary’s entire library—all 6,000 books in the collection. Then they painted, installed new carpet and new bookshelves. And in early January, when students arrived back on campus, they walked into a whole new library experience.

Red Cloud’s Library Director, Kathleen Siebrasse, says students were surprised and thrilled with the update.

“Before this renovation, our library was seriously outdated. But now, entering the library, students have been amazed at the ease of finding many new books, as well as the old ones. It’s very well organized, and student feedback has been very positive. They love the new carpet smell,” she explains.

“Many thanks are in order to all those who worked so hard for this much needed library renovation and for getting things back in order for 2014.  This newer library will be enjoyed and added to for many years to come!”

USDA Rural Development, Dick and Peggy Mangan, Dr. James Gutmann and Chuck Hausmann provided vital and generous support to this project. Without their help and the support of the staff, the library renovation would have not been possible.
