Standing in Support

June 3, 2020

Red Cloud Indian School stands in support of all those calling for justice in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the countless other Black Americans whose violent deaths came before his. The systemic racism that has brought us to this moment continues to oppress black and brown people across this country—including our own Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous students and community members—in profound and tragic ways.

Our roots in both Lakȟóta and Jesuit spirituality call on us to work for social justice. For today, that means not remaining silent. Tomorrow, it means examining how we, as an organization and as a community, can contribute more fully through our work in education, the arts, and outreach to dismantle these systems, promote healing and compassion, and embrace our shared humanity. One of our most important prayers—Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ, All our Relations—guides us to persist and live up to that call.
