On May 2, 2021, Bishop Peter Muhich celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation at Holy Rosary Church on Red Cloud's campus with young people of our Oglala Lakȟóta Catholic Community. The Holy Spirit was at work in allowing this celebration after many months of sheltering-in-place and social distancing from one another. For some of the young people, the celebration signals the end of a very long wait: they would have been confirmed in May 2020 but had to postpone due to the pandemic. They began gathering again this spring in preparation and made a mini-retreat together in April. It was also a celebration that allowed us to welcome our new Bishop, who arrived in the Diocese of Rapid City, which includes the Pine Ridge Reservation, in July and had been previously unable to visit the Pine Ridge Reservation due to COVID restrictions.
