The Middle School Speech Club spent the last three months finding material to present and practicing to take part in the Shannon County Schools Speech Contest on November 7th. Students met each Tuesday during the After-School program to practice individually and in front of each other in order to be prepared. Listed below are all the students, the category they competed in and their placing in the category.

  • Talon Mesteth, Poetry Reading, 5th-6th grade
  • Cole James Beane, Serious Interpretation of Drama, 5th-6th grade, 2nd Place
  • Shelby Pourier, Poetry Reading, 5th-6th grade, 3rd Place
  • Halona Brewer, Serious Interpretation of Drama, 7th-8th grade, 2nd Place
  • Alexis Ghost Bear, Humorous Prose, 7th-8th grade, 2nd Place
  • Jacob Cousin, Humorous Prose, 7th-8th grade, 1st Place
  • Marlee Kelly and Miranda O’Donnell, Duet Memorized, 7th-8th grade, 1st Place

There were over one hundred participants and these students represented Red Cloud Middle School with humility and pride.

“It takes a lot of poise, courage and hard work to stand up and deliver an oral presentation in front of judges and peers,” explains Carol Krotz, Title I Teacher.

Krotz helped the students prepare for the competition.

“Sometimes it takes a year or two of practice before they find themselves winners,” she says.

However, all the students are recognized for their hard work and willingness to try. It is the hope of Red Cloud that these and additional students continue to participate in the Speech Team each year. The skills they learn from speech will help them throughout their high school years and accomplish the goals they choose to pursue in the future.
