May: Month of Mary's Faith

posted on May 09, 2013

Having recently celebrated the new life of Easter and as we watch Mother Earth bring forth the new life of spring, Red Cloud’s parishes and the Catholic churches of Pine Ridge will be celebrating new life in a variety of ways during the month of May.

To recognize the deep faith and trust of Mary as the mother of the Church, many churches will hold a May crowning, which involves the placing of a crown of flowers on a statue of Mary. These services involve a procession, prayer and singing, culminating with a child from the church placing the crown on the statue.

Keeping with the theme of celebrating new life in the faith community, May also is a traditional time for celebrating First Communions—representing a parishioner’s reception of the Holy Eucharist for the first time in their life.

First Communions in the Red Cloud Indian School parish will be celebrated throughout the month of May. Many of ceremonies will be held on May 12, Mother’s Day, including one at Our Lady of Lourdes’ Christ the King Church where second grade siblings, Jade and Jules, will participate.

Congratulations to them and all students and community members who are involved!
