What Do We Mean By An Inculturated Mass?
Inculturation is a theological term used to explain the process of Christ being expressed in a local culture. Vatican II urged Catholics to worship from their culture, which validates their prayer.

Pope Francis says: “The People of God is incarnate in the peoples of the earth, each of which has its own culture. The concept of culture is valuable for grasping the various expressions of the Christian life present in God’s people. It has to do with the lifestyle of a given society, the specific way in which its members relate to one another, to other creatures and to God... In the diversity of peoples who experience the gift of God, each in accordance with its own culture, the Church expresses her genuine catholicity and shows forth the beauty of her varied face.”
(Evangelii Gaudium nn. 115 ff.)

An inculturated liturgy draws on the spiritual richness of another culture. Lakota use drumming, singing, and azylia (smudging) to express the integration of their culture and belief. Inculturated liturgy invites us to reflect on the signs and symbols we use wherever we worship.
