WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Red Cloud Indian School Website! We hope that you like our new look. Please continue to visit our webpage as we endeavor to keep you up to date on campus happenings and our needs. This year we have a record enrollment in the high school and waiting lists in the elementary schools. As a parent told me, “Father, people know that if you want your child to have a good future, they need a Red Cloud education.”

With your help and support, 95% of this year's high school graduates had their plans in place to pursue more education; which in this context is quite accomplishment. So much in their surroundings of poverty and unemployment says to them that they probably can't achieve their dreams. So, when you get the sense of hope alive in them and a vision for the future, a great deal has been accomplished in their lives. Four of the high school graduates received Gate Scholarships from the Gates M illennium Scholars Program. Red Cloud High School has the distinction of having the highest number of Gates Scholarships per capita of any Native American school in the country. So, together we are accomplishing some wonderful things in their lives; we are making a difference.

At all grade levels Red Cloud students are achieving successes which would not be possible without dedicated and caring teachers, staff members, principals, administration, board of directors, and especially our friends throughout the country who support us. At Red Cloud, our students are gaining both the confidence and competence to achieve their dreams of a brighter future. Without our friends the doors to Red Cloud would literally be closed and the doors to that brighter future would be shut.

Each year we must raise nearly $10 million to provide education and services to the children and families on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Of that, 87% comes from caring people, foundations, and corporations. Last year we received 82,072 gifts. Gifts large and small. Each one of them consequential. We are working to broaden our efforts in the areas of planned giving, appeals to foundations, and to increase our endowment, but due to our isolated location and lack of local wealth we must continue to rely heavily on our direct mail solicitations.

Thank you again for visiting our Website that celebrates the children's accomplishments and allows us to thank all of our friends who are part of some amazing success stories. It is only through generous and caring hearts like yours that a brighter future is possible. Know that you are remembered in our prayers each day. Please keep the effort here in yours. Lila wopila tanka and May the Good Lord bless you.

Sincerely and gratefully,

Fr. Peter J. Klink SJ
