Red Cloud Indian School is located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, which is in the south-western corner of South Dakota, and neighbors the Badlands and the Black Hills. It is a beautiful area with many attractions. Red Cloud is about a one and a half hour drive south from Rapid City.

Red Cloud offers about 600 students ranging from K-12 an education in the Catholic and Lakota tradition. There's no better way to see the remarkable work of our students, faculty and staff than to visit our campus in person. We'll be sure to give you a tour, including:

  • School classroom buildings, where during the school year, you will see our students and staff in action
  • The Heritage Center Museum, with some of the finest collections of Native American art in the region. It includes almost two thousand paintings, drawings, traditional clothing, sculptures and artifacts representing a large number of different Native American tribal traditions.
  • Gift shop supporting the local tribe by offering the public locally crafted Native American art
  • Holy Rosary Church, after a fire completely destroyed our previous church in 1996, this beautiful building is it's replacement
  • Historical Mission Building, dating back to the original mission started in 1888 by the "black robes", the mission building today houses offices, our Jesuits and Fransiscan Sisters, but originally also incorporated the early dormitories for students.

To arrange a campus visit, call us at (605) 867-5491 or email us pr@redcloudschool.org.

Please note that there are no hotels on the reservation as of yet. Visit the Chamber of Commerce to find hotels in the area.
