Fr. Pat Burns has been at Red Cloud since 1999. Prior to coming to Red Cloud, he worked with Red Cloud Indian School staff through the years. Over the years he served the Provencial of the Wisconsin Province. Born in 1933 in West Allis, WI, Ordained in 1963, Fr. Pat has been a Jesuit for over 50 years. By training, he is a theologian. He has taught at St. Louis University, Marquette University, and the places he remembers most fondly-at various catholic seminaries in eastern Africa. He has also spent almost twenty years in administration-in the Wisconsin Province Office in Milwaukee, at the United States Jesuit conference in Washington DC, and most recently at Marquette University. At Red Cloud, Fr. Pat serves as Vice President for Finance. He supervises Red Cloud's investments, handles special gifts and projects, serves as budget director, and works with Ms. Jane Farrell, Red Cloud's Director of Development, preparing grant proposals. Though "it's not Africa," Fr. Pat enjoys living on the high Plains, working with the Lakota people, and coming to understand a little of their rich cultural heritage. Is he content to be working mostly on finances? "Sure, if it helps Red Cloud attain the challenging goals it has set for itself in the service of the children and families of the Pine Ridge Reservation." |
