SOCIAL STUDIES CLASSROOM
About the Instructor
My name is Urse Charbonneau and I am a third year volunteer from Kansas City, Kansas. I came to Red Cloud after graduating from St. Louis University in 2008 with degrees in History and Theology. During my first year, I was the full time substitute and 21st Century After School Program coordinator in the middle school. In the summer of 2009, I began a two-year Masters of Education and Teacher Certification program at Creighton University. I am now in my second year as the Middle School Social Studies teacher. I teach sixth grade World History, seventh grade Geography and eighth grade U.S. History.
Curriculum
As the middle school social studies teacher I am granted the opportunity to work with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
In 6th grade World History we examine civilizations including Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and India. During the 7th grade year we look at World Geography. Our goal is to introduce students to different cultures around the world and help them understand how physical geography effects development. 8th graders study U.S. History from the Pre-Columbian Era to Reconstruction. We aim to understand why and how the United States was founded and how it developed. Beyond content, social studies classes also heavily emphasize study and writing skills.
