About the Instructor
Pam Lliteras
was born in Glendale, California and is the oldest of eight children. Pam finished grade school through the sixth grade and moved to Boise, Idaho and then moved to Wyoming for High School. Pam has lived in Chadron, NE since 1974. Pam attended Chadron State College and received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Education in 1980. Pam is currently working on finishing her Master's Degree in Reading from Grand Canyon University, anticipating finishing in July of 2005.

Pam teaches the core subjects to the fifth graders which include: Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Reading.

Curriculum

  • Mathematics covers Basic Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Number Sense, Patterns, Relations, and Functions, Statistics and Probability.
  • Science covers Nature of Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Earth/Space Science, Environmental Science and Technology.
  • In Language Arts, the major emphasis is on writing in different forms: poetry, narrative, and basic writing skill across the curriculum.
  • Social Studies covers history of the USA, geography, civics, and economics.
  • Reading uses a guided reading format. The first 18 weeks focuses on historical fiction using books about different tribes of Native Americans. The second 18 weeks focuses on fantasy and use the Harry Potter series of books.

Fifth grade special activities include a spring camp trip at Outlaw Ranch in Custer, SD.
