About the Instructors
Marilyn Van Biggle - Hi, my name is Marilyn van Briggle. I provide Title 1 services to children in grades K thru 4. I have been at Red Cloud since the fall of 2000.
I live on a farmstead north of Gordon, Nebraska. My husband, Marv, and I have 2 sons. Chris and his wife, Deanne, live in Centerton, Arkansas where they are employed by the Wal-Mart home office. Chris is a computer programmer and Deanne is a business analyst. Our younger son, Brett, graduated from Chadron and Omaha with degrees in Clinical Laboratory Science and Microbiology. He finished his schooling last spring and is employed in the lab at Creighton Hospital in Omaha and Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Ne. Bret and Kylee Stanley were married this past summer. Kylee is in the second year of medical school in Omaha.
We also have 10 other ‘sons’. We have hosted 10 exchange students in the past several years. (Four from Ecuador, four from Japan, one from Brazil, and one from Mexico.) This year we have Fernando Sanchez from Chihuahua, Mexico living with us. He is a student at Red Cloud High School. I love working with children. There is such an opportunity for growth, change, and creativity. I am very happy at Red Cloud and enjoy the staff and the students here very much.
Carmelita Two Elk – Hi my name is Carmelita. I was born and raised here on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I have 6 children, one girls and the rest boys. I have 12 grandchildren – six boys, six girls. I have taught at Loneman school, Pine Ridge Elementary, and RED CLOUD INDIAN SCHOOL. Thirty years ago, I came to the Red Cloud campus to enroll my eldest child in the Montessori. I had my teaching degree and SD teaching certificate but chose to stay home and raise my children without an outside job. However, Fr. Mathi, the Superintendent at that time, saw me on campus and hired me on the spot and I have been here happily since. This year marks my 41st year teaching in school systems. Currently, I teach Title 1 reading to the lower elementary school children.
I love teaching. It is my life.
