Meet the Teachers

Gretchen Lees – I am Gretchen Lees.  I live in Chadron, Nebraska with my husband Jay.  I teach 4th grade students.  I really enjoy teaching.  I love it when students reach the ‘ah-ha’ stage; when they know they know something.  For example, a student might not know how to do double – digit multiplication.  If so, he or she practices.  Then, after a while he or she gets a problem of that type and solves it correctly!  I enjoy helping the students become independent, life-long learners.

Essie White Face – My name is Essie White Face and I am the aide in fourth grade.  I have a family of eight children – 5 girls and 3 boys.  They have given me 8 grandchildren!

I have lived here on the reservation since 1966 and have seen many changes.  I directed the ambulance program from 1971 to 1992.  I came to Red Cloud in the fall of 1994.  Initially I worked as an aide in 1st-4th grades but finally settled in 4th grade.  Each year brings it’s own challenges but the rewards for even small successes are great.
