Meet the Teachers
Michael Mallon – I grew up with the Great Lakes in the land of Michigan.  My mother was a secretary and my father worked for the Boy Scouts, and so I became a writer, an outdoorsman, and ultimately a teacher.  I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in English and elementary Education and then taught elementary school for four years in a public school in Michigan.

Teaching calls me because of my love for community, curiosity, and children.  This journey continues to challenge me to grow everyday, and stay present with patience and persistence.  And of course to have the opportunity to appreciate and encourage the natural talents of children is quite joyful.  I also enjoy rambling the outdoors, dabbling in the arts, and finding myself in the mystery of prayer.

I feel blessed to have this opportunity to teach at Red Cloud.  There is such beauty in Lakota culture and I am grateful to learn many things that I did not learn growing up in Michigan.

Carmen Fourd.  Carmen is a 23-year-old alumnus of Red Cloud.  She graduated in 2004 from Red Cloud High School and attended Creighton University for two years before returning to the reservation to begin building a brighter future for her people.  She is currently attending Oglala Lakota College for a double major in Business Administration and Accounting as well as working as a full time third grade teacher’s aide.  In her spare time Carmen continues her service work through Young People For, an organization of People for the American Way, which emphasizes community service and youth involvement in government.  She is also a member of OLC’s Pine Ridge Student Organization.  Her other interests include gaming, reading, writing, beading, fishing, and camping.
