A Family Recovery Initiative workshop is being planned for September 5th and 6th from 9:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Bill Pauly Hall, Christ the King Church, Porcupine, SD. Presenters will include Geraldine Provencial and Jim Stands from the Icimani Ya Waste recovery center in St. Francis, South Dakota. The workshop is designed to help tribal leaders and others in a position to help their communities with addiction recovery efforts and to learn the tools to be more successful.

Ms. Joyce Tibbits and Fr. Dan Gannon are largely responsible for the Catholic recovery ministry on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. They both have spent a great deal of time with recovery ministry in the communities as well as the prison facilities. Joyce had the opportunity to attend the program when it was offered in Rosebud and was very impressed by it. According to Joyce, “the program teaches tools to stay sober and how to take the tools to your community.”
