DIRECTOR OF The Heritage Center

Department: Administration
Supervisor: Executive Vice-President

Position Summary:

The Director is the lead officer of The Heritage Center, and is under general guidance and direction from the Executive Vice President.  The Director performs supervisory and administrative duties in the organization and management of The Heritage Center. Responsibility will extend to other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Administrative
    • Supervises developing Center services for the school, coordination of Center activities, and evaluation of programs pertinent to the operation of the Center.
    • Manages and oversees all activities and aspects of the gift shop, collections, museum education, and gallery.
    • Knowledge and ability to manage the point of sale software program.
    • Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of programming, including the annual Red Cloud Indian Art Show.
    • Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of funding strategies, needs assessment, and evaluation and updating of standards and practices concerning the Gift Shop, collections, museum education, and gallery.
    • Is responsible for the operation of THC and its planning for the future.
    • Works closely with Advancement in preparing grant proposals and writing reports in a timely fashion.
    • Serves as liaison to The Heritage Center Committee of the RCIS Board of Directors.
    • Prepares The Heritage Center’s budget, monitors and accounts for expenditures, coordination of fundraising activities, and orders necessary supplies and equipment.
    • Develops goals for The Heritage Center.
  • Supervisory
    • Supervises The Heritage Center personnel; hires and provides positive cross-training of employees; assigns and monitors work; evaluates employee performance; and provides positive discipline to employees.
    • Ensures proper storage of the collection and its security.
    • Coordinates gathering of accurate records of the use of the Center, including attendance records, volunteer hours, tours, and program and budget notes.
    • Supervises regular monitoring of security camera system.

Director of Human Resources

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Director will works directly under the Executive Vice-President. The Human Resources Director supports the mission and goals of the institution, and leads Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a high quality workforce.  The Human Resources Director coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs; reports to the Executive Vice-President; and assists and advises Department Heads about Human Resources issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Director guides and manages the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the entire institution. The major areas directed are:

  • Administrative
    • Serve on the Executive Vice-President's Leadership Team.
    • Develop and maintain a system for personnel records.
    • Is responible for the policy development and documentation of the employee handbook.

Community Relations Coordinator

Department Head: Vice President for External Affairs
RCIS Site Supervisor: Executive Director of Advancement

Position Summary:

The Community Relations Coordinator serves as a voice for the institution, responsible for creating awareness of and building support for Red Cloud Indian School’s mission and strategic efforts; building and enhancing RCIS’s recognition and perception in the community; and actively supporting RCIS’s strategic initiatives through community relations and partnerships. The Coordinator must be strategic, possess a refined sense of discretion and experience in planning and supervising.

The Coordinator supervises the Community Relations Associate and provides oversight for the External Affairs Intern program in the summer.

Primary Responsibilities:
    • Serve as a first point of contact for external audiences contacting RCIS for general information, visiting, donating and partnerships, judiciously filtering interest for organizational programs.
    • Work closely with the Advancement Office to promote awareness and understanding of the institution in the effort to secure appropriate funding for ongoing programs, capital projects and endowment, training staff with appropriate talking points and understanding.
    • Manage and direct the work of the Community Relations Associate, training the Associate as needed.
    • Oversee the recruiting, hiring, coordination and supervision of the External Affairs Intern program.
    • Lead the development of a comprehensive, effective and systematic tour.
    • Work with local and state tourism and chambers of commerce and other organizations to develop strategic partnerships.
    • Coordinate service group logistics, invoicing and schedules, designating a proxy host when appropriate
    • Lead campus tours with key visitors of the institution, as requested by the President and Vice Presidents
    • Under the direction of the EDA, monitor and attend to the Advancement and External Affairs Offices budget, including completion of purchase orders and tracking expenses.
    • Oversee and analyze visitor feedback pursuant to the development of a greater institutional experience.
    • Serve as an on-site events manager, coordinating and directing as assigned
    • Other duties assigned by the VPEA and the EDA.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
    • Understanding of the needs and interests of internal and external stakeholders in order to develop relationships between the two.
    • Ability to serve as an effective ambassador for the organization with external constituencies: initiate and build relationships with prospective stakeholders, interact via telephone and in person with clients, and speak publicly to group audiences.
    • At least 1-2 years of experience in a leadership position with demonstrated success in planning and supervisory activities.

Cashier

Job Status: Full-time
Reports to: Comptroller

Position Summary:

Qualified candidate will be responsible for the duties associated with the Cashier desk in the Business Office and work under the direct supervision of the Comptroller.

Principal duties:
    • Receives cash, checks, vouchers or departmental charges from customers and/or employees in payment for goods or services.
    • Counts money to verify amounts and issues receipts for payments received.
    • Cashes checks and provides change as requested; maintains accurate records of cash and checks received.
    • Records deposits in Daily Cash Balance book.
    • Maintains daily cash on hand, notifies Comptroller when cash is necessary.
    • Compares totals on cash receipts to verify balances.  Reports any discrepancies to the Comptroller.
    • Maintains files of cash receipts.
    • Endorses checks and lists total cash and checks for bank deposit, and prepares bank deposit.
    • Processes Development mail; count and receipt cash and checks, copy checks that are $50 and over, prepare deposit, record in Daily Cash Balance book.
    • Maintain file on checks $10,000 and over
    • Disburses cash receipts and information regarding income received to proper departments.
    • Maintains files on all checks coming from President and Vice President for Finance.
    • Assists with year end audit.
    • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the Red Cloud Indian School, Inc. administration.

    • Minimum of high school diploma or GED will be accepted.  Associates Degree in Accounting/General Business preferred.

Director of Major Gifts

Position Summary:


To support growing efforts, Red Cloud Indian School seeks to fill the exciting new position of Director of Major Gifts. The Director will work with the Advancement Leadership Team to develop and grow a national major gift effort within a successful, growing and diverse advancement effort. With an eye on an upcoming capital campaign, the Director will develop strategies and systems for providing proper solicitation, stewardship and recognition of major gift donors and prospects, and will supervise and implement these strategies while empowering local and off-site staff in the process. Central to the role will be educating major gift prospects about Red Cloud Indian School, engaging them, and soliciting their partnership through an active schedule of visits. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to empower others to work with major gift prospects and understand more fully the major gift component of the effort, and provide the training, support, mentorship, and confidence to development staff to enhance their roles and rise into new roles. The ideal candidate for this position has a proven track record in strategic fundraising, understands the needs and interests of leadership and major donors, and is a sophisticated, passionate communicator, committed to going out and getting gifts.

Note:
This position will report to the Vice President for External Affairs and work closely with the Major Gift Officers, Advancement Associate and leadership team. The Major Gifts Director will be on-site at Red Cloud Indian School a determined amount of time in the fall, spring, and summer, but may otherwise work off-site.

Position of External Affairs Effort:
The philosophy of the external affairs effort is one of education, empowerment, and engagement. Currently, we are quietly moving through a 5-year strategic plan to provide programmatic and capital improvements and endowment security for Red Cloud Indian School so that the hope that is being provided today will be available for future generations. The Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for continuing to solicit funding toward meeting the institution’s approximately $13 million in annual operating expenses, while simultaneously planning for and soliciting funding to meet the upcoming capital campaign. The Director of Major Gifts will be instrumental in developing the infrastructure and mechanics to move from this quiet initiative to what will be a substantially larger campaign in the next year, as well as establishing a solid framework for the future stability of the organization’s advancement effort. 

Principal duties:
    • Work closely with Red Cloud’s leadership and each major gift officer to create and carry out strategies and departmental goals for solicitation and stewardship of an active portfolio of high net worth individuals.
    • Manage a portfolio of 150+ major givers and their proactive cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities, integrating support requests into long-term relationship strategies.
    • Travel extensively, communicating to donors and prospects a strategic understanding of Red Cloud Indian School’s priorities and projects, maintaining familiarity with education, social justice, and arts issues.
    • Set and monitor annual revenue targets for major gifts, developing regular updates on institutional donor revenue for RCIS leadership and Board of Directors.
    • Assemble and manage a national team of major gifts staff.
    • Prepare Red Cloud senior staff for key meetings and donor cultivation.
    • Make numerous decisions on cultivation time committed vs. expected gift response, determine key participants in prospect and donor relationships and decide the most effective and productive use of travel time to achieve annual fundraising goals.
    • Develop and implement a system to identify major and planned gift prospects and create strategies to match prospects' interests to the identified priorities of Red Cloud.
    • Make timely and effective use of RCIS’ records management resources to ensure appropriate records management of donors and prospects, developing regular updates.
    • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
    • 5-7 years of progressive experience in cultivating and soliciting individual prospects capable of five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts.

Position Summary:

Red Cloud Indian School is seeking to fill the position of Major Gifts Officer at a time of unprecedented growth in the organization’s advancement efforts. The Major Gifts Officer manages a portfolio of high net worth prospects and participates in all aspects of the gift cycle, including initiating contacts with potential major gift donors and developing cultivation strategies.     • Conduct and/or review research to identify major and planned gift prospects and create strategies to match prospects' interests to the identified priorities of Red Cloud.

          • To assume duties on August 12, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School (OLL) in Porcupine, SD.  The Math Teacher reports directly to OLL Principal and is responsible for attending all Orientation sessions, preparation of the 7th grade classroom, preparing lesson plans for 6th, 7th and 8th grade Math classes.
        • Preferred Qualifications:
          • Certification in Middle School Math
          • Experience in the classroom
          • An appreciation and understanding of Catholicism, Lakota culture and spirituality, or life structures within the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
