On Wednesday, August 31, Red Cloud Indian School welcomed a delegation from the office of the United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota to our campus. 45 visitors from the U.S. Attorney’s office listened as seniors Marilyn Frank '17, Atiana Janis '17, and Jacob Rosales '17 introduced themselves in Lakota and English and discussed their collegiate ambitions and their experiences as Red Cloud students.

The three students and Red Cloud High School principal Clare Huerter then fielded questions from the guests, who asked about Red Cloud’s history, academic record, and place in the community. Afterwards, U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Seiler referred to the students as “role models” and expressed admiration for Red Cloud as a beacon of hope on Pine Ridge Reservation.

For the students, the appreciation was mutual. “I like that they cared to come down and hear what we have to say,” Marilyn said. “Instead of asking Clare, ‘What do they have to say?’ [They] actually wanted us to talk.”

Jacob agreed, “It’s great to know that people are taking notice.”
