Get to Know Some of Our 2016 Red Cloud High School Graduates

We sat down with a few of our 2016 graduates after finals were complete to learn a bit more about their plans for the future. Meet Dylan, Matagi, John, Brianna, Terrell and Jazzlyn for a glimpse of what each of their futures hold!

Dylan Tobacco

Hometown: Wakpámni District/Calico
Best Part of Red Cloud: “The opportunities and the Jesuit education.”
Extracurriculars: Parish Council, Football, Basketball, Cross Country, Track and Wrestling
Accomplishments: State for cross country and track, Won LNI 2 years in a row for wrestling, Red Cloud Presidential Award
Post-Secondary Education: South Dakota School of Mines and Technology
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Dream: To come back and help the reservation in its sovereignty and move toward an environmental way of thinking with green energy


Matagi I’atala

Hometown: Pine Ridge
Best Part of Red Cloud: “The people. I really like Anne Grass, who teaches  AP English, and Garrett Gundlach, who teaches Spiritual Formation. They’re fun and awesome!” 
Extracurriculars: Student Council, Cheerleading, Volleyball and Track
Post-Secondary Education: Fort Lewis College
Major: Kinesiology or Biomedical Science
Dream: To possibly be a veterinarian one day


John Conroy

Hometown: Batesland, SD
Best Part of Red Cloud: “When I first came to Red Cloud I didn’t know anyone and so getting to know people — getting to experience certain things and having memories with them all — was the best part.” 
Extracurriculars: Basketball, Cross Country and Track
Accomplishments: Confirmation and Haŋbléčhya, Crazy Horse Award, LNI Highest Award in Lakota Language
Post-Secondary Education: Western Dakota Tech or United Tribes
Major: Electrical Degree or Auto-Mechanics 
Dream: Become an auto-mechanic. “My grandpa went into the service as an auto-mechanic and that’s what inspired me.”


Brianna Beard

Hometown: Porcupine, SD
Best Part of Red Cloud: “The education I have received over the last four years, the friendly people I’ve encountered on a daily basis, and how helpful the teachers are — especially the art teacher, Brittany.” 
Extracurriculars: Archery, Volunteering for the Lakota Language Camp, Wrestling, Drama Club
Accomplishments: 4th place in the State Archery Competition
Post-Secondary Plan: Military
Branch: Marines
Dream: Attending college after military service to become a teacher


Terrell Pulliam

Hometown: Pine Ridge
Best Part of Red Cloud: “Meeting new people. The community we have here is really together and it was something to experience.”
Extracurriculars: Football, Basketball, Service Hours
Post-Secondary Education: Haskell Indian Nations University
Major: Exercise Science
Dream: To help athletes through serious injury and assist them to healthy recovery


Jazzlyn Weston

Hometown: Porcupine, SD
Best Part of Red Cloud: “The community. I love how everyone comes together.”
Awards: Academic Acheivement Award for Anatomy
Post-Secondary Education: University of South Dakota
Major: Addiction Studies or Dentistry 
Dream: To work in the field of study she chooses. "We need people who know how to help with addiction and we need dentists."
