Red Cloud Elementary and Our Lady of Lourdes Libraries Receive New Books!

Recently 428 new library books were donated to the elementary libraries of Red Cloud Indian School (RCIS) and Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) from Coughlan Companies. Coughlan is a family owned business based in Mankato, Minnesota that also publishes inspiring books for children through Capstone Press. Ranked number one in children’s publishers by libraries across the country Red Cloud staff were positively overwhelmed at the prospect of selecting a donation of books directly from company catalogs.

“It was a great privilege to choose books that we know will empower our students to explore more,” said Kathleen Siebrasse, Red Cloud Indian School library director. “And it’s not every day that someone offers to fulfill a wish list!”

As the busiest rooms on the school campuses, the library sees a lot of foot traffic. The new additions include hardcover books, fortunately, that will withstand the test of time. “Kids are always coming in and asking ‘What’s new for me to read, Kathy?’ and they are voracious readers!” Kathleen explained. Third grade teacher Jodi Crile is particularly excited about the support these books will lend to updated Common Core standards. "It's my goal every year to change students' perspective from we have to read to we get to read! The impact we can have in offering our students a wider array of reading choices across the subject areas is immeasurable."

With the majority of RCIS and OLL elementary students reading at or above grade level, there’s no telling the progress that will be made with the enticing new books at their fingertips.
