The Lakota Nation Invitational (LNI) concluded last week with major wins for Red Cloud Indian School in Basketball, Wrestling, Cheerleading and in other events. It was one of the biggest events of the year for Rapid City and featured more than 2,500 amazing student-athletes from schools across the region. Perhaps one of the most significant wins for Red Cloud at LNI was the Lakota Language Bowl, where students earned both first and third places.

"What [the Lakota language bowl] means to our people is pride," says Philomine Lakota, a Lakota language teacher at Red Cloud Indian School. "It's restoring pride in the language."

South Dakota Public Broadcasting's Charles Ray spoke with Philomine about Red Cloud's success with the Lakota language and at the recent competition. Listen to the full interview below.
