THE HERITAGE CENTER COLLECTION
The Red Cloud Collection which is the core of The Heritage Center began with the purchase of three of the prize winners of the first Red Cloud Art Show. The consensus of the organizers was that in the future people would ask where all the excellent Indian Art of past show is now; we would have to tell people they would have to go to Europe or the East Coast to see the best Native American paintings.
One friend said that would be wrong and provided the funds for many many years to purchase prize winners of the annual Red Cloud Art Show to build a permanent collection for the school.
For several years the collection hung in the Faculty and student dining rooms. In 1982 when the new elementary school was built space became available for the Heritage Center to have a home of its own.
After the 1996 Church fire, The Heritage Center suffered extensive smoke damage during this fire; The Heritage Center underwent extensive remodeling. At this time a replica of a 1940's classroom was incorporated as part of the gallery.
The Heritage Center has an excellent collection of fine Native American artists' nation wide and an excellent collection of Lakota Tribal Arts.
