STUDENT COUNCIL
The Red Cloud High School Student Council acts as a liaison betwenen the student body and the Red Cloud High School Administration, Faculty and Staff. By approaching issues that their peers feel passionately about, student council members continually strive to include the vision of the student body into the long-term goals of Red Cloud Indian School.
Current Goals
Some of what the Student Council is currently working on is:
- Red Cloud High School Store – The student body is concerned with changes that have recently taken place in their school store. Working with the administration they have attempted to come to some sort of understanding that is inclusive of both the student’s desires as well as the interests of the School and the Health Bureau.
- Class privileges- Traditionally, Senior class members have been allotted certain privileges that other classes are denied. After a great deal of debate, the Senior class this year decided to forego some of those privileges in lieu of the best interests of the school, by fostering a sense of equality and fairness across grade-levels, the Senior class showed a great deal of character.
- School Board Representative- This year’s Student Council includes a new position, School Board Representative. Senior Jason Clifford assumed this role in September and has been elected to serve on the High School Leadership team. Jason will have direct access to meetings involving vision and projected goals for the High School and will thus be able to represent the student voice in that planning process. This year’s Student Council felt it was of the utmost importance to have their perspective included in the planning process.
Recent Student Council Events
The Student Council also works very hard to plan events and fund-raisers that are vital to the school. Recently the Student Council has executed:
- The most extensive Homecoming week in the history of Red Cloud High School, including
- Theme days Monday through Friday
- A hall decorating contest
- A School-Wide Bonfire, complete with Fireworks!
- A Talent Show that displayed our students unique abilities
- A Parade that honored our athletes and student leaders5
- A Pep Rally to get Red Cloud excited for our big rival, Pine Ridge High School
- A Powder-Puff football game
- Two Dances since the beginning of the year, one honoring our school-wide Homecoming week and the other in celebration of Halloween.
- A Halloween Carnival that raised a great deal of funds for student clubs and organizations on campus
