Faith: Introduction to Catholic and Lakota Traditions

This year long Freshman course is an introduction to the Catholic and Lakota faith traditions, as well as to the Ignatian tradition within Catholicism. Invitations will be made and opportunities will be provided for growth in the Lakota and Catholic traditions. A thematic question which guides this course is, how do I love well?
Course Objectives
- Students will know the major school policies that are written in the student handbook.
- Students will understand the basic concepts of the Catholic and Lakota faith traditions.
- Students will increase their reading comprehension.
- Students will increase their personal responsibility.
- Students will increase in their desire for and enjoyment of an education at RCHS.

Unit 1: Who We Are at Red Cloud: Lakota, Catholic, and Jesuit
Unit 2: The Center of Our Faith: The Pipe and Christ
Unit 3: The Gift of Self: The Eucharist and the Sun Dance
Unit 4: Living Lakota and Catholic Values
Unit 5: Sexuality and Healthy Relationships
Unit 6: Prayer and Spirituality
Evaluation
Assignments, projects and tests = 80%
Spiritual journals = 10%
Class participation = 10%
