COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

The major focus of the Guidance Department is to promote and enhance student learning in three areas:

  • Educational Development
  • Career Development
  • Personal/social development

The Department recognizes that the use of drugs, alcohol and high-risk behaviors have become increasingly important issues in our Lakota Society. We know that alcohol and drug abuse is a treatable health problem, which is preventable and can be addressed through early identification and referral. We also realize that the primary responsibility for helping students lies in the home and community; however, we must share in that responsibility.

The mission of Red Cloud Indian School is to help students “develop and grow as a vibrant Church through an education of the mind and spirit, that promotes Lakota and Catholic values.” The counseling department lives this mission out by providing opportunities for our students to reach their full potential. The department prepares our students to make informed decisions about life issues.

Philosophy
Our basic philosophy is that all students have a desire to be successful here at Red Cloud, not only as a student, but also in life as a productive adult. We are advocates for the students within the frame of our Mission as a school. We are also here to help students prepare for college: to match students with potential colleges, to help students apply for college, to help students find financial aid for college. We are always available to offer students support on life and school issues. Read more about our department.
