Red Cloud Indian School to bring more than 100 students to Lakota Nation Invitational
UPDATED on December 17, 2011
More than 100 students from Red Cloud Indian School will participate in the 35th Annual Lakota Nation Invitational December 14-17, 2011. A time-honored tradition, schools from across the Upper Midwest will converge on the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota, to compete in a number of athletic and academic events.
“This is a very exciting time for the entire Red Cloud family,” says James Mattern, principal of Red Cloud High School. “The students and teachers continue to work very hard to prepare for LNI, eager to not only share their academic talents and athletic abilities, but also to create many good relationships with other schools over the four-day event.”
Red Cloud students will return to events such as boys’ and girls’ basketball, wrestling, Business Plan Competition, storytelling and Lakota hand games with defending champions returning for the cheerleading Competition, Archery Tournament and the Lakota Language Bowl.
“I love knowing that we get to meet with and compete against students from so many different schools,” says Brenna Banks, a senior at Red Cloud High School and captain of the 2011 Red Cloud High School Cheerleading Team. “With so many schools entered, the competition doubles and I love it!”
