Red Cloud Middle School eighth graders celebrate graduation with Mass, ceremony Red Cloud Middle School's eighth grade graduating class celebrated their matriculation to high school on Thursday, May 20 with a special Mass and ceremony at Holy Rosary Church on the Red Cloud Indian School campus. Fr. Peter Klink SJ, president, presided over the Mass. The Mass began with a traditional Lakota smudging and purification ceremony, with a traditional Lakota song sung by Sons of the Oglala. The Mass ended with a blessing of the crosses that were gifted to the graduates. The commencement ceremony began with a presentation of awards and scholarships to the students for outstanding achievements throughout the school year. Diplomas were presented, followed by a Lakota song of encouragement and thanks by graduates Colton Sierra, Chantel Roubideaux, Savannah Jensen, Odessa Starr and Cassandra Black Horn. The ceremony concluded with an honoring song by the Sons of the Oglala and a closing prayer. The 2010 Red Cloud Middle School graduating eighth grade class are as follows: Brianna Elizabeth Amiotte Shannon Grooms is a member of Our Lady of the Sioux Church. She taught Religion at Red Cloud Elementary School for four years until the birth of their oldest daughter. Shannon, her husband, and her two daughters live on a ranch nine miles north of Oglala, SD.
