Summer camps in science and engineering offered to Red Cloud students; scholarships available

This summer, middle and high school students from Red Cloud Indian School will have the opportunity to attend weeklong summer camps offered by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The partnership between Red Cloud and the School of Mines and Technology engages students in science and engineering, encouraging them to explore these in-demand careers early in their studies.
Scholarships are available to interested students who may be unable to finance the cost of the camps on their own.
“Red Cloud is committed to providing our students with outstanding educational opportunities both in the classroom, and off the reservation,” says TJ Lynch, business manager at Our Lady of Lourdes in Porcupine. “These summer camps strengthen the confidence of our students as they chart new territory, expanding both academic and ‘life’ perspectives.”
During the camps, students get a taste of college life, staying in the dormitories at the School of Mines and Technology. Last year, more than 20 students from the Red Cloud Indian School system received scholarships and attended the camp.
