Spring is creeping closer once again, and, amongst other things, here at Red Cloud that means eagerly awaiting another round of applications to the Red Cloud Volunteer Program. The Red Cloud Volunteer program is currently home to seventeen volunteers, between the ages of 20 and 32, all serving the children and families of the Pine Ridge Reservation. According to Paddy Gilger, SJ, Volunteer Coordinator, the 2008-09 program year has been a success. "This year's volunteers have been truly outstanding," he says. "They have sincerely given themselves to the real challenge of being formed into their truest selves. I know that might sound a bit odd, but being at Red Cloud is a challenge - the kind of challenge that can either help us to become more open, more generous, more humble, or can close us off to such possibilities. These volunteers have been a joy to work with; they've certainly showed me ways that I can better serve as a Jesuit, and I'm grateful to them for that." As of publication time, there have already been four new volunteers accepted for the 2010-11 program year. Most recently, Katie Bent, currently a Senior at Boston College, has been accepted, and is very excited to see what her future holds at Red Cloud.
