Parish News: New Office Manager at Our Lady of the Sioux
by Shannon Grooms, Our Lady of the Sioux Church
posted on Aug. 03, 2009

Shelley White has accepted the position of Office Manager at Our Lady of the Sioux Parish in Oglala. She started on July 22, 2009, and is already fully integrated into the daily activities happening at the
Church. White is now stranger to Red Cloud Indian School however, having most recently served as the institution's comptroller.

“I love being at the parish," she says. "I feel like I’m helping people and making a difference. It is very rewarding.”

White was born in Crawford, Nebraska. And while she has lived in a number of different places throughout her life, she has always had roots and family on the Pine Ridge Reservation. She decided to come back to the reservation to attend college at Oglala Lakota College. She obtained an associate of arts degree in business administration and tribal management. She went on to join the Army before working at Red Cloud.

In her free time, White likes spending time with her children, Sheldon and Odessa Starr, as well as her extended family. “My kids are my life,” she says.

White will be the contact person for booking the hall and taking care of the day-to-day activities of the parish. If you need to contact White, call her at 605/867-5673.

Shannon Grooms is a member of Our Lady of the Sioux Church. She taught Religion at Red Cloud Elementary School for four years until the birth of their first daughter. Shannon, her husband, and her two daughters live on a ranch nine miles north of Oglala, SD.
