Red Cloud boys’ basketball team to play at halftime of Denver Nuggets game on Saturday

The Red Cloud High School Boys’ Basketball Team will play at halftime of the Denver Nuggets game this Saturday, October 3 in Colorado. The invitation to play at the Pepsi Center came from the Denver Nuggets administration as an incentive for outstanding academic grades in the classroom and sportsmanship on the court.

“Words cannot express the gratitude that my teammates and me have for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Jeremy Blacksmith, a senior standout on the team. “It means the world to us, to have our hard work and dedication recognized by the esteemed Denver Nuggets organization. And, we’re thankful to the Red Cloud administration for supporting this special moment in our lives.”

Before their scrimmage on the court, the basketball team will visit the Nuggets’ official headquarters and practice facilities before watching the Nuggets play Partizan Belgrade in their preseason game.

“This is a great reward for our student-athletes,” says Coach Matt Rama. “I’m proud of our students, and this is a wonderful opportunity for them to represent their families, the school and the reservation in a positive way.”

“This is absolutely, positively a unique experience for these students, and I’m sure they will remember it forever,” says Nick Dressel, high school principal. “I know these kids will have the time of their lives.”

“The biggest part, for me, is the chance to see a live professional game, and to step on the court and meet the players in person,” adds Blacksmith.

A total of 10 players from the basketball team will travel to Denver. Tip-off for the game is set for 7:30 p.m.
