Confirmation was celebrated on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Pine Ridge, SD with Bishop Blase Cupich officiating. Twenty-seven candidates from five reservation parishes received the gift of the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The celebration was steeped in Catholic and Lakota tradition. It began with the four directions song and the Lakota azylia purification rite. From there, things followed a traditional Catholic Confirmation Celebration with some of the traditional Catholic songs being sung in Lakota.

The ceremony was wrapped up with the newly confirmed lining up in the hall for a traditional Lakota honoring song after which the congregation welcomed and congratulated them.

The evening concluded with Bishop Blasé Cupich saying a meal prayer and the congregation sharing in good food and fellowship.
