Latest in world-renowned Native American calendars available for purchase, funds academic programs at reservation school
posted on Aug. 03, 2009

The 2010 Red Cloud Indian School calendar is available for purchase from The Heritage Center on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  The latest of the Red Cloud Indian School’s world-renowned calendars once again features the vivid photography by Fr. Don Doll SJ and a forward by David Rooks ’74.

“Our annual calendar is a collaborative effort with many Native American families and friends of the Pine Ridge Reservation, and we are thrilled with the final result,” says Tina Merdanian, director of institutional relations at Red Cloud. “We had a wonderful time working with the students and families to develop this year’s publication.”

Fr. Doll has dedicated his time and talents to the Red Cloud calendar for the past 12 years. As part of the calendar shoot, Fr. Doll gives each student digital copies of their photographs for use in their own home. Ordained a priest in 1968, Fr. Doll is a professor of journalism at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, where he holds the Charles and Mary Hieder Endowed Jesuit Chair. Fr. Doll is a past recipient of Creighton’s “Dean’s Award for Professional Excellence in Teaching.”

Along with Fr. Doll and Rooks’ contributions to the calendar, Rapid City, South Dakota-based publisher Fenske Media Corporation designs and prints  the calendar.

The 2010 calendar, depicting the people and traditions that make Red Cloud unique, is available at the Heritage Center for $15. Calendars can be ordered from The Heritage Center for $19 (shipping and handing included) by contacting them at  605/867-5491 x218 or by emailing heritagecenter@redcloudschool.org.
