Red Cloud sends Wrestlers to state in style
posted on February 21, 2008

Thursday morning was much different from any other morning for the students at Red Cloud High School as Principle Nick Dressel announced that the students were to meet in the Field House for morning announcements.

After everyone congregated in the Field House and the morning announcements were announced, Principal Nick Dressel stated “For the first time ever in Red Cloud history, Red Cloud has qualified three wrestlers for state! Would Andrew Twiss, Grey Hamilton and Charles Eagle Bull please come to the floor.”

“Today, we are here to congratulate these boys for all their hard work and dedication as they leave for state today to represent Red Cloud High School” stated Nick proudly.

Once Nick finished his speech of congratulations and encouragement to the wrestling team, he invited their coach Clay Leonard to come and say a few words.

Coach Clay spoke of how proud he was of his team. He then spoke of the long hard trip it has been for the wrestling team thus far. He then told the crowd, “We’re going to take it one match at a time and do the very best that we can!”

With the conclusion of Coach Clay’s speech, the students began to stand as Philomine Lakota began to sing a great Lakota honoring song for the boys. Students and teachers alike filled the gym floor and formed a line as they began to shake hands with state qualifiers.

As the line kept going, the students and teachers shared their hugs, handshakes, and words of encouragement to the team.

It will be a day to remember for Red Cloud High School as the students, teachers and faculty honored the wrestlers in true Lakota tradition.

Good Luck to Andrew Twiss, Grey Hamilton and Charles Eagle Bull as they travel to the Sioux Falls Convention Center to participate in the State Wrestling Tournament!
