Crusaders crush Crow Creek 50-0 for fifth straight winposted October 10,2007
PINE RIDGE – Billy Scott, Red Cloud’s 180 pound senior running back who is among the state leaders in rushing and scoring, opened the Crow Creek game Friday with runs of four, eight, 12 and 12 yards before scoring the first of his three touchdowns with an 11 yard scamper through the middle of the Chieftain’s line as Red Cloud knocked off Crow Creek Friday 50-0 for their fifth straight win of the season. “We worked hard on keeping Crow Creek out of the end zone,” said Keith Ferguson, first year head coach at Red Cloud, “our defense has played well all year, we’ve been stingy with points allowed and we want to keep improving on the defensive side of the ball.” Dominic LeBeaux ran for two on Scott’s first TD while Jeremy Blacksmith came back on Red Cloud’s next series to hit Mike Cuny for a 13 yard TD pass midway through the first quarter. The run failed on the extra point but the Chieftains struggled to get their offense going on their next offensive series to open the second quarter and had to cover a bad snap on a punt for a safety to make it 16-0. Art Vitalis intercepted a Vilas Fallis pass and returned it 57 yards for a TD late in the second quarter, Scott ran for two to give Red Cloud a 24-0 lead at the half. Scott picked up where he left off early in the third with an 11 yard run for his second TD and following a Roman White Calf fumble recovery, it took all of 33 seconds to turn in a nifty 33 yard gallop for his third TD. Dave Giago’s run for two gave the Crusaders a 38-0 lead. Kiley Weston, a freshman running back, reeled off a 19 yard off the right tackle and Dominick LeBeaux finished the game off with a 35 yard TD run with 4:51 to go in the fourth. Scott finished with another dominating performance on the ground carrying the ball 18 times for 176 yards and three touchdowns, LeBeaux had five carries for 51 yards, a touchdown and a two point conversion and Blacksmith was three for 12 for 65 yards and a touchdown. Fallis was 11 of 25 for 148 yards and one interception. Larry Gayton had one catch for 58 yards, Terrance Gonzalez grabbed three for 38 yards. Andrew Twiss led the Crusaders with 10 tackles while Red Cloud held Crow Creek to a minus 26 yards on the ground on eight carries. Crow Creek is 0-6 on the year and travels to Pine Ridge on Friday while Red cloud is 5-1 and hosts Little Wound on Friday.
