Varsity Volleyball team makes history during LNI Tournament The Lady Crusader Volleyball Team made Red Cloud history this past weekend by winning the volleyball Lakota Nation Invitational tournament for the first time ever. The team began the tournament on Friday September 28 th with pool play. They defeated Hills City, Custer, Cheyenne Eagle Butte and Marty Indian School. The team finished their pool play on Saturday morning with wins over Crazy Horse and Takini. These wins gave the Crusaders top seed in their pool for the tournament. The Crusaders began the tournament by playing 2 nd seed Standing Rock. The girls came out on top with a 2-set win, which took them to the Championship game against Todd County, who defeated Custer in the semi-finals. Red Cloud played an aggressive 1 st set against Todd County, winning 25- 16. The girls had a rocky start in the second set but were able to fight back to a victory, winning a close game 28-26. Besides an LNI team championship, middle hitter, Marque Lunderman had outstanding performaces throughout the weekend, making her MVP of the tournament. With the girls’ 8-0 tournament record, their overall season record jumped to 20-5. Their next match up will be against Bennett County on Tuesday, October 2 nd, at Red Cloud, with freshmen beginning at 5:00.
